Who I am
A few things about me that aren't art or art education related.
I'm a raging introvert. (This means I can often be found making loud and uncomfortable silences at parties and large gatherings)
If I want to sleep at night I stop drinking coffee before 10am.
I dressed my smallest human up as a Neil Gaiman and Adam Rex book character for Halloween two years ago. Both Mr. Rex and Mr Gaiman retweeted her photo. Mr Gaiman used all caps. I will forever be in a state of fan girl excitement over those two retweets.
I have read The Lord of the Rings so many times I have lost count. I introduced my bigger and smaller human to Tolkein when the biggest small human was seven and the smallest small human was two.
I am currently introducing my two small humans to Sir Terry Pratchet's Discworld. I will not however be reading The Shepherds Crown to them anytime soon as it was an emotional roller coaster for me when I read it to myself.
If you haven't guessed from the previous two items: I am a lover of reading. Mostly of books but the back of a cereal box will do in a pinch.
I am a Whovian,
I prefer my vampires to come from the Whedonverse.
I do not however make any sort of judgement on those who are not fans of the Doctor, prefer RDJ over Cumberbatch as Holmes or like their vamps to sparkle. Well... if I do I won't let on and let you be you.
I have been accused of an addiction to candy corn. I have yet to admit to having a candy corn problem.
Both of my children are named for characters of Shakespeare plays as either first or middle names. Both were also given nick names that are confectionary in nature. Only one of those names and its variations stuck past toddlerhood the other answers to a shortened variation of her first name.
I get deja vu often. there it is again.
Since my husband's sense of humour doesn't run to the cornily goofy (he's more the darkly witty sort). I make all the cheesy pun jokes with the kids this allows me to dredge up all the wonderfully awful jokes, riddles and silly rhymes my dad shared with me.
I am always up to date on flu vaccinations and my hands are incredibly clean because my white blood cells attack each other in random cycles. I keep a good offence so that a common cold doesn't keep me down for a month.
I am currently educating myself about Twice Exceptional children since we have recently had one of our small humans designated as gifted with learning disability. We suspect the other small human is gifted as well but we don't know for sure just yet.
A peek at One of my latest projeCts:
I wrote a series of haiku poems about Jellyfish. I cut and scored and folded heavy watercolour paper into an accordion book and have spent the last four months adding paintings and mixed media art to the front and back of these pages. When they are all done I will add my lines of verse and a cover. You can see here one of the pages in process. I used pva glue as watercolour resist.
Periodically I'll update what I'm making here. Mostly it will be mixed media art or photography. Sometimes it will be something a little more dimensional or crafty.
When the portfolio page to share my personal work is built I'll link to it here.
And about mY art
I graduated with a BFA from Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design in 2002.
I majored in photography and my thesis project was about Salmon.
I still have a part of my graduation art work on display in my home. The other part was a digital video on a loop.
I am am a bit in love with mixed media art making at the moment which suits my teaching very well.
Story and narrative are major components to my art making and to my day to day life as well.
I love to share ideas and work closely with other artists. When the ideas start flying fast and furious that is when the best art is created.
I am passionate about printmaking
